Walking down that narrow path of evil through the dark was quite revealing to Eve, she started seeing from a different View, she started thinking. For a while she wasn't able to think but that night she had enough time to think, and started realizing, she wasn't really welcomed to this home, she was rather seen as an opportunity for cheap labour. She went to the stream and sat by the water all night long thinking. The cold breeze from the stream was more of comfort to her than a snare, she felt relaxed and never wanted to leave the spot, but as it was dawning, she had to go home. Walking home in the morning, she saw kids her age going to school. She thought 'if I was really welcomed here, why don't they treat me like other kids'? Ono's mom had been looking for her all morning, she was supposed to do some house chores but she didn't come back from the stream till morning. Ono thought she had really been kidnapped by Mutubus but was disappointed and surprised as Eve walked into the compound with a bucket of water on her head. 

Eve was welcomed home with a long cane nicely peeled for a fine grip for a better flogging. She had never been whipped that way all her life, at this point her wishes started reversing. She was better off in the cold street feeding off whatever people gave her. The thought of running away, but the pros and cons she weigh suggested she stayed back, it was the rainy season and being homeless during the season would be worse than being flogged under a roof and passed down the left over of a good food. She chose to stay and do more chores, maybe if she made more effort her madam would be happier and be more accommodating. At least she had the company of the cat, unlike it was when she was homeless, she had no company at all. At those dinners when her Madam's boyfriends came around, she had a little time to spend with the cat, playing and feeding it off her own food. Some of the men who were even married came over with their children. Ono's mother wouldn't mind, the man would make his kids call her aunty. 

As days and weeks passed, Ono's relationship with her next door boyfriend advanced. Once her mom goes off to work, he will sneak in and Eve would be in the house cleaning up and doing chores while Ono had loud sex with her boyfriend. This was another level of experience for the little girl who had thought she was being beaten up. She would mind her business so she wouldn't get herself in trouble, it wouldn't be fun if the neighbours starts adding to her pain too, so the smart thing to do is mind her business. But the cycle continued, to little Ono, whenever her madam goes off to work, the neighbour's son comes in to beat Ono. Although she most times was surprised Ono gets happier coming out of the room than she was before the boyfriend comes through, she was confused and would try to tell her madam, but she wouldn't pay attention to her, so she kept on minding her business as usual. 

On this particular day, Eve had walked all the way down the lonely path to the steam under the Harsh sun while her mates were in class at schools. She walked with full bucket of water on her head sweating profusely. The way her neck was bent, it was obvious the load on her neck was heavier than she could carry. But this was a usual sight even the neighbours have gotten used to. Ono usually had time you have a quickie with her next door boyfriend when Eve had gone to the stream, but somehow the usual quick lasted to a romantic noon with the sneak-in boyfriend. Just within her loud sexual moment, leaving the door ajar, Eve walked into the house with the heavy bucket on her head and seeing the door open, she decided to peep in to see if Ono was really fine. 

Ono noticing the door was left open and Eve was back trying to look into the room, tiptoed to the door from inside the room, knowing Eve was behind the door, she kicked it open with the door hitting Eve in the face and knocked her to the floor spilling the bucket of water she had suffered to carry to the house from the stream. Yelling and asking her "what do you want to see"? She used her sneak-in boyfriend's belt to beat Eve all over. For at least 20 minutes, Eve had received the beating of her life and was pushed into the store house and locked up where she sat crying by herself not being able to finish her allocated chores, waiting upon the arrival of Ono's mom from work.
